This is as British as British gets. Danny Boyle knows what he's doing, and here he's pulled off a sequel similar to the first by being charming in places, and effortlessly cool in others. The use of British music is excellent, and its variation sets this melancholy, nostalgic mood which is a fitting backdrop for the movie. There are the flashbacks which increase the sense of nostalgia and there's the 'Choose Life' moment which poignantly captures the themes of regret, friendship and masculinity. Although it's always a lot of fun, the midsection doesn't drive at anything hard enough, and it begins to flounder plotwise. Often funny, and filmed using some really creative angles, kudos must still go to the cast for successfully recapturing old characters 20 years on.
