There's something really wrong with this film and it took me some time to pinpoint exactly what it is. It's the plot. I think it's that there is no mid section to the plot, just a beginning and an ending.

Rumour has it that this film was only made just so that Fox could retain the rights to the Fantastic 4 Franchise. Rumour also has it that critics were prevented from releasing reviews of the film before it was out. Alarm bells should have been ringing.

The lack of any compelling action was gaping for a superhero film. The only meaningful action came right at the end of the film, at which point you're just waiting for it to end.

They tried to do something with this movie, we don't really know what it was, but whatever it was it just didn't work. Victor Von Doom had his backstory rewritten in a way that tied him closer to the other main characters which actually wasn't a bad idea. But otherwise he was a half baked villain with unexplained abilities and contradictory motivations. It actually may not have been so bad if there was an extra hour in the middle, and there was some.. well some plot really. But for now, Fox please just hand this over to Marvel. Cheers.
