Adonis Creed is an unoriginal character: (tough young broodish guy angry at the world), and everybody's seen the Rocky formula before, but Coogler has tied in this story with the classic's well, and mixed them to produce a cracking movie.

There's also an on screen reunion between two characters from 'The Wire'..

The movie would have struggled to hit home without the involvement of Stallone, who much of the backstory relied upon, acting as a spine for the plot, which, yes is perhaps unrealistic in one area, but is forgiven for the motivating training montages, the burgeoning romance we are sold which (takes time to develop but) convinces when it really counts, and of course the cameo from Andre Ward.

And can we talk about the totally mesmerising set piece of the final, climactic fight which more than did previous Rocky films justice, but had such great pre fight production that TheMoneyTeam themselves would have been proud. I'm talking Micheal Buffer, fire breathers, everything. So if you do decide to see Creed (and you should) it's one to see in a proper cinema.
